There is an appealing history to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where casino gambling is not permitted. Eight gambling dens are established in a generally tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; however, investment sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 1700, and even though visas are for all intents and purposes needed to cross, there are ways around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.
The 1st Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only 1 gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and 66 of the familiar table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive vacation and hotel building that highlights a number of amenities aside from the gambling den, which contains 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 table games.
