Cambodia Gambling Halls
There is an interesting story to the Cambodia casinos that lie just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling hall wagering is illegal. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a relatively small space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime area, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a number of limitations constraints for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; although, investment sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are supposedly needed to pass, there are means around this, as is correct of most border crossings.
The initial Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary ship gambling hall, contains 150 slots and sixty table games. The Naga gambling den is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slot machine games and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the common gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive resort and hotel compound that features a number of amenities in addition to the casino, which houses ten thousand square feet of 130 slot machine games and 88 table games.
