Cambodia Casinos
There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just over the border from nearby Thailand, where casino gambling is not legal. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a relatively small area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in a prime spot, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; although, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 17:00, and even though visas are allegedly necessary to cross, there are methods around this, as is real of many border crossings.
The first Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat casino, features 150 slot machines and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains 300 slot machines and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and 66 of the familiar table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international resort and hotel compound that features many luxuries on top of the casino, which offers ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and 88 gaming tables.
